Steven Scott

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Steven Scott grew up in the woods of central Minnesota twelve miles west of Minneapolis, where the oak savannah meets the northern prairie. Just as he was starting high school Steven's family moved from Minneapolis to rural southern Arizona, on the border of Mexico. There were no art classes at the high school, but in the last semester of his senior year he crossed paths with a local artist who had a studio in her home where she taught people how to paint. He received permission to take art classes from her every Thursday afternoon and upon finishing his first painting she turned to him and said, "You have a gift that you don't know you have." Because of this he decided to enroll in the art program at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. He spent four years studying to be a painter but discovered that he also had a passion for all things design. He eventually switched his major to graphic design, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. Upon graduating from college Steven returned to Minneapolis, MN and began his career as a freelance graphic designer. He's accomplished in logo and brand identity, package design, and product development. Many people have said to Steven that his art makes them feel happy. What inspires his effort is the idea that his art can have a positive effect on someone's feelings or moods. The lyrical black outlines and vibrant use of color reveal his mastery as an artist. He makes warm and cool colors dance effortlessly through vibrant fields of shimmering patterns and textures. It's hard not to smile or feel good when looking at his art.
