Color is important to her as a means of mood and expression and it plays a predominant role in her art. Her pattern designs draw from Art Deco, Craftsman, Asian, Art Nouveau, Victorian and Americana influences, but her earliest artistic inspiration was the 60s-era art of Peter Max (whom she finally got to meet in 2010). She applies her colorful, stylized approach to pet portraits, humorous illustrations, patterns, and cityscapes, as well as to flip-flops for the footwear company Sandalista. When she's not painting animal portraits for both local and distant clients, she likes to meet and interview local artists for her Boston Art Images blog. Paula lives in the heart of the city in Boston, and loves exploring it on foot, camera in hand. The city's detailed and varied architecture, and the energetic buzz of city life, is one of her inspirational muses. But before moving to Boston in the early 90s, she lived for a very long spell in Miami, infusing in her an incurable love of outdoor life, Art Deco design, and the beach.
